The annual 5 a side was held at Cavendish Playing Fields Matlock, 4 teams entered the tournament with the holders Derwent Valley kicking off against Erewash B, an early goal settled this game from Derwent Valley, Chesterfield then took on Erewash A, this game ended up with a win to Chesterfield, the next game was a win for Erewash B against there A side and the next two games were draws between Chesterfield and Derwent Valley, then Derwent Valley v Erewash A, the following game was a cracking encounter between Chesterfield and Erewash A, with Chesterfield only needing a draw and winning 1-0 with 3 minutes to go, Erewash A scored to quickfire goals to stun Chesterfield losing 2-1, this meant a penalty shoot-out with Erewash B to see who played Derwent Valley in the final, Chesterfields’s disappointing night continued by losing the shoot-out.

In the final neither team could find a breakthrough in open play, Derwent Valley could not find the goal with many chances going begging, the final went to extra time then penalties, this then went to sudden death, when Jamie Kernagan saved a spot kick then scored him self to give Derwent Valley the trophy for the second year running.

QUIZ AND BUFFET

The quiz and buffet was held at the Duke William Starkholmes, the buffet was supplied by Bev Marchant, and it went down a treat, it was excellent, with many people going back for seconds, bev was commended for a brilliant buffet.
The quiz was held after the buffet, there were 2 rounds for each team, 6 teams entered with 4 players in each team. After the first round all the teams were close, with only 10 points seperating all the teams, in the second round Erewash C showed the intelligence by leading the pack beating Erewash B and A to win the quiz, well done to all the teams who took part this was an excellently supported function.

The Secretary of Derwent Valley would like to thank, Bev Marchant, Mel Beaumont of The Duke William, Peter Lang,Andy Bills and there referee friend Wendy Bailey for collecting the proceeds to pay for the event. Cavendish Sports Association and everybody whom attended. Thank You
